Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Committee (2017) located at Annapurna Rural Municpality-11,Ghandruk is an association of Local Tourism Business Operators established with an aim to enhance tourism through development of infrastructure of Annaurna Base Cap. Maurice Herjong and his team (French Mountaineers) 1950 A.D, first stepped Annapurna I st (8091 m) were able to keep the world’s record for climbing mountain above 8,000m.And the day (June 3) is celebrated as Annapurna Day from then. And to celebrate this day, committee has organized Annapurna Marathon from last year. For development and implementation of Sports tourism, master plan shall be developed and Local , Province and concerned authorities are committed.

Dear all participants
Annapurna Marathon is an annual event that is organized on Annapurna Day that falls on 3rd June every year. This marathon is organized in the memory of the day when Annapurna I (8091m) was conquered by the French expedition group of Maurice Herzog. June 3rd is celebrated as Annapurna Day in Nepal to mark the successful ascending of over 8000m peak in the history of mountaineering expedition. In this context, Annapurna Marathon has been organized from last year in order to contribute to developing tourism infrastructure promoting Annapurna Base Camp through Sports Tourism.
The huge publicity campaign has been conducted in order to make participate maximum number of ultra runners. And it will also help all the runner in the world gathering in the same forum as well as maintain mutual friendship and solidarity. The marathon begins at Annapurna Base camp (4130m) and ends at Ghandruk village via Machapuchre Base Camp, bagar, Deurali, Himalaya, Dovan, Babmboo, Bhanuwa, Sinuwa, Chhomrong, Ghurjung, Tadapani, Bhainsikharka. The marathon route has been determined based on the site study report of a technical team. According to the technical team involved in the route assessment, Annapurna marathon route is easier and simpler than Everest Marathon route. Last year, we had successfully completed the Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Festival in various three phases including organizing Annapurna Marathon. Annapurna Marathon as the key event, Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Festival will be continued at one phase in coming days. It is expected that organizing such an event will develop sports tourism along with the development of tourism in Nepal.
